Applications of Radio Frequency Technology in Aircraft

Radio frequency (RF) technology is an integral part of modern aviation, encompassing anything from advanced communication equipment to onboard entertainment. Pilots take advantage of RF communication equipment, most commonly known as radios, to communicate on ground, during takeoff, on board, and after landing. In 2012, Boeing employed RFID tags as a part of their maintenance procedure called component management optimization. These tags provide information regarding various aircraft sections including part number, serial number, date of manufacturing, and maintenance history.
